In humanity's search for life beyond Earth, astronomers have identified more than 6,000 planets that lie outside the solar system.

The study suggests a new kind of habitable zone beyond the circumstellar habitable zone, where moons orbiting free-floating planets could potentially host surface oceans for geologically meaningful spans of time, opening up new possibilities for the search for life beyond Earth.
